Easton occupies an unusual position on the South Shore map. It has Stonehill College, Borderland State Park's 1,800 acres of hiking and horseback riding trails, and a downtown North Easton village where five buildings designed by H.H. Richardson—America's most influential 19th-century architect—are registered as National Historic Landmarks. The town's population of roughly 25,000 supports a strong school system anchored by Oliver Ames High School, a median household income above $121,000, and a housing stock that is overwhelmingly single-family homes built in the 1970s through 1990s.
That housing stock is the issue for condo buyers. Easton has very little condominium inventory, and almost no new-construction options within town borders. The existing condos tend to be older conversions or small complexes that lack the amenities, open layouts, and energy-efficient construction that buyers expect from newer buildings. For Easton residents—or anyone drawn to this part of Bristol County—the most competitive new condos are a short drive away in communities built by Thorndike Development in Raynham, Halifax, and Plymouth.
Easton sits at the intersection of Routes 138 and 106, with Route 24 running along its western border. That highway access is the reason so many Easton residents commute to Boston, Providence, or the Route 128 corridor without thinking twice about the drive. It also means that communities in neighboring towns—Raynham is 12 minutes south on Route 138, Halifax is 20 minutes southeast, Plymouth is 30 minutes east on Route 24 to Route 44—are genuinely convenient, not just "technically accessible."
The median sale price in Easton hovers around $600,000 for existing homes, many of which need significant updating. New-construction condominiums from Thorndike start below that figure and come with modern kitchens, energy-efficient systems, and shared amenities that no older Easton condo complex can match. For buyers who love Easton's character but want a newer home, the math works.
Thorndike Development is not a stranger to this part of Massachusetts. In neighboring Norton—about 10 minutes from the Easton line—the company built Red Mill Village, which won Best Active Adult Community in the Nation from the National Association of Home Builders. Greatbrook, also in Norton and abutting TPC Boston where the PGA Tour plays, was Thorndike's first 55+ community and introduced the Victory Gardens concept that has become a signature amenity. That Norton track record is part of why the three active communities feel like they were designed by a builder who understands what southeastern Massachusetts buyers actually need.
Less than 10 minutes to both Route 24 and I-495, Larkwood is the closest Thorndike community to Easton and the one most likely to feel like a natural extension of the commute patterns Easton residents already have. The 138 single-family attached condominiums sit along the Taunton River, with a canoe and kayak launch, woodland trails, raised-bed gardens, and a central green connecting the neighborhood.
What sets Larkwood apart from typical condos is its ground-level flex room—a space that comes standard in many plans with no prescribed use. Owners have turned it into home offices, guest suites, craft rooms, and workshops. Six floor plans range from the compact Cedar to the 2,830-square-foot Birch. Three floor plans—the Chestnut, Hickory, and Pine—offer first-floor primary suites for buyers who want everything on one level. Homes start from [price:larkwood] with garage parking in every home and an in-house design director who works with every buyer on finish selections.
For active adults, Featherwinds offers something no Easton condo can: buildings with central elevator access, single-level floor plans, and a dedicated active adult community designed from the ground up for over-55 living. Condominiums range from 1,027 to 1,598 square feet with one or two bedrooms, and homes begin [price:featherwinds]—significantly less than the Easton median.
The amenity package at Featherwinds is built around an active daily routine. Four pickleball courts managed by the town of Halifax, Victory Gardens with raised beds, a dog park with no breed or size restrictions, a four-season pool and poolhouse, and a central green with fire pit and walking paths. Halifax is building a new Senior Center at the Featherwinds entrance on donated land, with a fall 2026 grand opening planned—professional programming in fitness, lectures, counseling, and social activities, all next door.
Alden's Reach is a multi-generational community where first-time buyers, growing families, and downsizers share the same streets. The 152 townhomes, duplexes, and single-level flats offer floor plans between 1,671 and 2,648 square feet, starting from [price:aldens-reach]. A pool, poolhouse with fireplace lounge, walking trails into town conservation land, a tot lot, half-court basketball, and fire pit areas make Alden's Reach feel more like a neighborhood than a condo complex.
Plymouth adds what Easton can't: ocean proximity, a downtown waterfront district with restaurants and shops, and seasonal events from the Thanksgiving Parade to the summer Rubber Ducky Race. Alden's Reach sits near enough to enjoy all of it while staying inside a quiet residential neighborhood with its own green spaces and gathering areas.
